Hi River, when you should start preparing for the ISEE depends on 3 primary factors:
1. The academic competitiveness of the school/s you want to attend.
2. Where your ISEE practice score currently is.
3. How big is the gap between where your score needs to be and where you are today?
The bigger the gap, the more time it will take for you to close it. Also, it generally takes less more time to improve reading scores than math scores.
Statistically, the most popular time for students to start preparing for the ISEE is between September and October before they take the exam in November or January--or about 4 months before they have to submit their scores. However many students start earlier (summer) and some start late (just a few weeks before they take the test--bad idea).
